Flight Risk – Celebrate Lit – Giveaway

About the Book

Book:  Flight Risk

Author: Cara Putman

Genre:  Romantic Legal Suspense

Release Date: April 7, 2020

Bestselling author Cara Putman returns with a romantic legal thriller that will challenge the assumptions of truth tellers everywhere.

Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build her law practice, to surround herself with good friends, and to be the loyal aunt her troubled niece can always count on. But since her ex-husband’s betrayal, she has trouble trusting anyone.

Jett Glover’s father committed suicide over a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation. Now a fierce champion of truth, Jett is writing the story of his journalism career—an international sex-trafficking exposé that will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.

When Jett’s story breaks, tragedy ensues. Then a commercial airline crashes, and one of Savannah’s clients is implicated in the crash. Men connected to the scandal, including her ex, begin to die amid mysterious circumstances, and Savannah’s niece becomes an unwitting target.

Against their better instincts, Jett and Savannah join ranks to sort the facts from fiction. But can Savannah trust the reporter who threw her life into chaos? And can Jett face the possibility that he’s made the biggest mistake of his life?

Our Thoughts

Hubs and I have been diligently reading this series out loud to each other since the first book. While initially we were both skeptical about the legal thriller aspect, Cara quickly made us jump all over the wagon. Now, we count the days for the next release.

Hubs thoughts: (He is clearly more poetic than I am.) “Flight Risk takes off in Putman’s final story of the Hidden Justice Series, presenting a unique perspective of truth. It’s a ride of turbulence, so keep those seat belts on and the pages turning, as you land in the tension of faith, love, redemption, and revenge.”

My Thoughts: Now that we’ve read many of Cara’s books, we knot the seemingly unrelated story lines will somehow weave together, but taking the journey of just how it happens is page turning. It was fun discussing just what way the story might turn and how pieces were connected with hubs. I think this would be a great book club book. People could come up with some pretty fun scenarios.

I loved how Savannah is founded in faith, but not so much that it comes off as preachy or unrealistic. She’s open about her anger and struggles and talks to God like a friend. She strove for a balance of patience and grace while also looking for areas she needed to intervene with her sister and niece. Her perspective on a tough situation and how she dealt with it is admirable.

I like that we’re seeing her as an older than typical character. She brings a maturity balanced with being too stuck in her ways that age and wisdom would bring. It’s a nice perspective not as common in Christian Fiction.

As with all of our read out loud books, there is enough romance to keep me happy and enough seat of your pants for hubs. Cara strikes a great balance even if I always long for more kisses. I’ve been waiting and waiting for Savannah to find her love.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Hubs didn’t have to read it at all, so his thoughts are totes his (though I may translate grunts into English 😉

About the Book

Book:  Killer Harvest

Author: Tanya Stowe

Genre:  Inspirational Romantic Suspense

Release Date: March, 2020

Can she stop a deadly crop virus from ending up in the wrong hands? Biologist and single mom Sassa Nilsson just witnessed her mentor’s brutal murder by environmental extremists. Now she’s the last link to a deadly pathogen they plan unleashing—and their number one target! But can handsome border patrol agent Jared De Luca shield Sassa and her baby long enough to find a cure…before the entire world faces the unthinkable consequences?

Click here for your copy.

My Thoughts

I can always count on Tanya Stowe for a good suspense read. In Killer Harvest Tanya brings a twist we don’t often see in Christian Suspense – biological terrorism on our agricultural system. What makes it especially scary is the possibility of this being a reality. Thankfully, the good guys win!

I thought it was interesting having two main characters who have been through a divorce. While I can’t speak to the accuracy of dealing with divorce fallout (I’m blessedly married to my first love), I appreciate both characters working through it knowing it is such a common situation in our society. How do you move to a new relationship in a godly way? How do you do this relationship differently then you did before? How do you deal with the past baggage, the fear of failing, the hope for new things? I think Tanya handles these questions well.

My heart melted every time Jared played with Kari. He doubts his abilities to be a good husband and father, but his actions prove that he will be given the chance. He sticks by Sassa without question showing loyalty. But, he’s not perfect. I do wish we would’ve seen more growth as a believer before the very end of the story.

Sassa doubts her abilities after some bad past decisions, but with her team’s and Jared’s belief in her, she gradually builds confidence to overcome such a tough situation and feelings of failure. She is stubborn to a fault, though when it come to lab experiments you have to be to not give up.

One character I wasn’t sure if I liked or didn’t was the lead FBI agent, though I want the opportunity to get t know him better.

I received a copy of this story for the purpose of this tour. I was not required to submit a positive review, all comments are my own.

About the Author

Tanya Stowe

They have four children and twenty-one grandchildren, a true adventure. She fills her books with the unusual…mysteries and exotic travel, even a murder or two. More from Tanya

As a teenager, I spent my summers water-skiing on the King’s River in Central California. Even though we lived on the coast and the ocean, we traveled inland to the smooth river waters every other weekend for our sport. We camped on a sandy beach, skimmed over the water all day long and at night sat under a sky full of brilliant stars and listened to the sound of the water rippling past. Since we lived on the coast with a heavy marine layer, the amazing sky always fascinated me. Surrounded by massive cottonwood trees, with the smell of ripe fruit drifting toward us, my river experiences were different from home and more than memorable. On some nights we’d hear the splash and laughter as teenagers, somewhere across the river, came down to swim. I always wondered what it would be like to live in the nearby small, neat-as-a-pin town, to know the same people all of my life and to be able to drive down to the river with my friends on any given night. I envied those teenagers and always knew I’d someday write a story about central California. I didn’t know it would involve biological warfare and crazed killers…but that transition is another story all its own! I’ll stop here and hope you enjoy Killer Harvest!

God Hears Her

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with the God who loves us unconditionally? No matter your relationship status here on Earth, there’s a Groom always waiting for His bride, the church, for you, for me, for all of Us. He loves unconditionally. I also like to think Jesus would share my affinity for candy hearts.

My Thoughts

I have always love the small devotionals from My Daily Bread so this collection is right up my alley. Not only is it so pretty and come with a handy ribbon book mark, but each page is filled with a gem.

I love that I can read it in about a minute if I don’t have much time. Or, I can take that minute and just as easily ponder/pray on a element of the lesson or look about the verse. but, I don’t have to – the verse clip is right there and I can read it super quick. It removes my excuse or “I just don’t have time.”

While I haven’t gotten through every day as there’s enough for a full year, each with a nugget that speak’s to my female heart. There are topics on so many I struggle with: relationships, confidence, worthiness, selfishness, believing I am His daughter, that He loves me no matter what.

I’d recommend this devotional for any female old enough to read. The short lessons will work for a girl just beginning to bloom or one who has many years behind her. We all can use the encouragement found in these pages.

I recieved a copy for the purpose of this tour but was not required to post a positive review. All opinions are honestly my own.

‘Feels Like Home’ Winter Recipes

As the weather turns colder, it becomes the time to pull out those tried and true winter-time recipes. You know, the ones that make us (or even keep us) warm on the inside. This is the time for the food that just feels like home.

Kirsten Holmberg and Elisa Morgan from the God Hears Her blog have shared some of their families personal recipes. These are the ones that are good for everyone. Feel free to try them yourself, bookmark them for later, or share them with a friend.

Kirsten Holmberg

In the winter, I’m partial to any slow-cooker soup or stew because I love coming home to it in the evening. My favorite is a Vegetarian Chili with some Italian influences:

2 bell peppers, diced

2 stalks of celery, sliced

2 lb zucchini halved and sliced

1 lb fresh mushrooms, halved

1 large onion, diced

3 cans diced tomatoes (fire roasted or herbed for the most flavor)

1 can tomato sauce

1 small can black olives, sliced (or fresh in any amount desired)

1 can cannellini beans

2.5 teaspoon Italian seasoning

2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced

½ cup water

Toss it all in a slow cooker for a few hours on high, or all day on low. Or, put it on the stove instead and simmer until the veggies are cooked through and the flavors blended (about 45 minutes). Parmesan cheese on top for an extra zing.

Elisa Morgan

A Cranberry Nut Bread recipe handed down by my mom, Paige Lee

2 cup flour

½ tsp salt

1 ¼ tsp baking powder

½ scant tsp baking soda

1 cup sugar

Sift above ingredients together twice. To the juice and grated rind of 1 large orange, add 2 tbs of melted shortening and enough boiling water to make ¾ cup. Mix with dry ingredients and add…

1 beaten egg

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup halved fresh cranberries

Bake in greased loaf pan for 75 minutes at 350 degrees.

If you double the recipe, bake a little less time and use 3 loaf pans. It also makes good muffins and can be frozen.

A Girl’s Guide to the Outback

About the Book

A Girl's Guide to the Outback

Book:  A Girl’s Guide to the Outback

Author: Jessica Kate

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Release Date: January 28, 2020

How far will a girl go to win back a guy she can’t stand? This funny, sweet, and romantic story proves that opposites do attract—and that God has a sense of humor.

Samuel Payton is a passionate youth pastor in Virginia, but below the surface, he’s still recovering from the blow of a failed business and insecurities he can’t shake. His coworker, start-up expert Kimberly Foster, is brilliant, fearless, and capable, but years of personal rejection have left her defensive and longing for a family. Two people have never been more at odds—or more attracted to one another. And every day at work, the sparks sure do fly.

When Kimberly’s ambitious plans for Sam’s ministry butt up against his risk-averse nature, Sam decides that obligations to family trump his work for the church. He quits the ministry and heads home to Australia to help his sister, Jules, save her struggling farm. As Kimberly’s grand plans flounder, she is forced to face the truth: that no one can replace Sam. Together they strike up a deal: If Kimberly comes to work on Jules’s dairy farm and lends her business brains to their endeavor, then maybe—just maybe—Sam will reconsider his future with the church.

As Kimberly tries her hand at Australian farm life, she learns more about herself than she could’ve ever expected. Meanwhile Sam is forced to re-evaluate this spunky woman he thought he already knew. As foes slowly morph into friends, they wonder if they might be something even more. But when disaster strikes the farm, will Sam find it within himself to take a risk that could lead to love? And will Kimberly trust God with her future?

My Thoughts

I had no control reading this book. There were so many things I was SUPPOSED to get done…I kept telling myself, “Put the book down, it’ll still be there later.” but, I failed. Every time.

The thought of an American girl having to survive in the Outback in pulled me in. At first, I wasn’t sure how Jessica was going to get her there, but she pulls off a way that Kimbo and Sam realize they both need each other’s strengths thanks to some meddling from beloved Julie.

Both Kim and Sam have problems accepting they’re worthy of love, but for different issues. Both struggle with head knowledge of how God’s love and forgiveness works but not accepting it into their innermost being. Both are sometimes madding for how tenaciously they hold on to their view points, but it makes for some fiery face offs and moments of surprising depth when they put their gloves down.

I admire Kim’s work ethic; she’s a crazy hard worker. I admire Sam’s gifting with teens. Through this story, Jessica shows us how we can all have different strengths but still serve God.

Plus, it’s a 2 for 1 romance! What the description doesn’t tell you is the secondary story between Mick and Julie that also makes you swoon. They were both great supporting characters and you have some point of views from Julie so you get to know her well. I definitely got frustrated with her stubbornness, though. Two HEAs for one story made me a very happy reader indeed.

I received a copy of this book for the purpose of this tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

The Thief of Lanwyn Manor – Celebrate Lit

The Thief of Lanwyn Manor FB Banner

About the Book

Book: The Thief of Lanwyn Manor

Author: Sarah E. Ladd

Genre: Regency Romance

Release Date: January 7, 2020

Thief of Lanwyn Manor

In this sweet Regency romance, Julia knows Matthew Blake, copper mine owner and very eligible bachelor, is the gentleman she should set her eyes upon. But why can’t she steal her gaze away from his younger brother, Isaac?

Cornwall, England 1818—Julia Twethewey needs a diversion to mend her broken heart, so when her cousin invites her to Lanwyn Manor, Julia eagerly accepts. Lanwyn Manor is at the heart of Cornwall’s mining industry, and as a guest Julia is swept into its intricate world. It’s not long, though, before she realizes something dark lurks in the home’s ancient halls.

As a respected mine owner’s younger son, Isaac Blake is determined to keep his late father’s legacy alive through the family business, despite his brother’s careless attitude. In order to save their livelihood—and the livelihood of those around them—the brothers approach the master of Lanwyn Manor with plans to bolster the floundering local industry. Isaac can’t deny his attraction to the man’s charming niece, but his brother has made his intentions to court the lovely guest clear. And Isaac knows his place.

When tragedy strikes, mysteries arise, and items go missing, Julia and Isaac find they are pulled together in a swirl of strange circumstances, but despite their own best efforts to bow to social expectations, their hearts aren’t so keen to surrender.

My Thoughts

I enjoyed this new story from Sarah E. Ladd. We see one of the children from her previous novel The Governess of Penwythe Hall all grown up. But while life at Penwythe Hall was idyllic, Lanwyn Manor is steeped in lore of curses and ghosts with a town seemingly set against the family.

With her movements restricted by her overbearing aunt and questionable safety, Julia learns to make the most of the situation given finding moments to meet Isaac and divine Matthew’s true character. I admire her devotion to her cousin, Jane, determined to stick by her side no matter her aunt’s manipulations. While she tends to be a quiet heroine, in that lies her strength as she falls in love and asserts her heart.

Isaac too has a quiet strength which makes them a good pair. I do wish he would’ve been a bit more assertive, but in the end, he stands where it counts after having worked behind the scenes to unravel the mystery. While he wants to keep Julia safe, he doesn’t become overbearing or try to tell her what to do. That is a nice change in hero!

I look forward to the next book where I hope we continue to see the grown up Trethewey children.

I received a copy of this story from the author for the purpose of this tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are honestly my own.
