First Line Fridays – Christmas Double Cross

Welcome to another installment of First Line Fridays, hosted by Hoarding Books. I didn’t realize when I picked this off the library shelf that it’s actually #2 in the series, but I don’t feel like I missed anything starting in the middle. That said, I’ll for sure go checkout book #1 and #3!

xmas double cross

Christmas Double Cross by Jodie Bailey

“Texas Ranger Colter Blackthorn shifted his borrowed Dodge Challenger into Park and left the engine running, the heater combating the near-freezing temperatures of an El Paso winter evening.”

So, grab the book nearest you and comment what your first line is (with title and author, of course!) and then head over to Hoarding Books to see all of the other books/blogs featured today.

  1. What? Texas isn’t always hot? I didn’t know that! My excuse is that my sole experience of Texas is two hours in Houston International Airport for a transfer 🙂 Airports are all air-conditioned or heated, so it’s hard to have any idea what outside is like.

I’m sharing from The House on Foster Hill by Jamie Jo Wright on my blog, but had to put it down because nighttime and suspense and a need to sleep. So I’m currently reading something a little lighter: Holding the Fort by Regina Jennings. Here’s the first line:

The fumes of the gaslights at the foot of the stage protected Louisa Bell from the more noxious odors of her audience.

Just the kind of lighthearted read I enjoy! The weather forecast for the weekend is looking bright and sunny, so I’m planning to get back into The House on Foster Hill when the sun comes out 🙂

    • That one is on my TBR pile as well! I’ve never been to Texas, so I have no point of reference. But, since it’s such a big state, I figure they have quite opposites top to bottom and side to side.

    • Glad I’m not the only one! Especially with Love Inspired, I just browse the shelf at the library and pick what sounds good. Since the books move between branches, you never quite know what you’ll get!

  2. I am sharing the first line from the YA Christian Dystopian novel All Things Now Living by Rondi Bauer Olson on my blog. Here I will post the first two lines from the novel I am starting next, Count Me In by Mikal Dawn:

“The little hairs on the back of Allegra Spencer’s neck stood at attention. He was behind her.”

Water: Book One of The Water Series by Emory Gayle

    Prologue: “My lungs burned”.

This book is a YA fantasy novel about girl who finds out she is a princess of the mer people, but was raised on land. There is romance in this novel too. I am about 60% the way through and there is some funny parts to the book too to tickle your funny mer tailbone (pun intended). Okay, losey joke on my part, but it is a good book so far.
